Topic: EU Enlargement – One of Europe’s great success stories we rarely tell

EU enlargement is one of the most transformative projects in European integration. Yet it is increasingly met with indifference or open scepticism in Austria and Vienna. What are the reasons for this fatigue? And how can enthusiasm be gathered again for a project that has not only brought peace and prosperity to Europe, but that holds the promise of a more united and resilient continent? This is now more relevant than ever, with Ukraine, Moldova and the Western Balkans on the agenda, and we want to discuss with you the ways forward.

Mag. Sebastian Schäffer, Director of the Institute for the Danube Region and Central Europe (IDM) and Secretary General of the Danube Rectors Conference, will be the input speaker at the fifth Treffpunkt Europa on the current state of EU enlargement policy – with a particular focus on Ukraine, Moldova and Montenegro – followed by an open discussion with participants.

We look forward to your active participation and an inspiring discussion in the atmosphere of a Viennese coffee house in a small circle of 12-15 participants. This is the first Treffpunkt Europa in English to cater to non-German speakers in Vienna as well as Austrians who want to practice their English.
